Approach & Services

There are an array of different theoretical modes of counseling psychology that one can employ. Many counseling modes seek to solve problems and relieve symptoms by applying methods that will change thinking patterns in order to encourage conformity to norms defined by our larger society. Although these methods are meant to alleviate undesirable situations, circumstances and behavior it does not always encourage authentic growth, change and transformation in the clients course nor does it acknowledge individuality, identity and story. While it is true that there are symptoms and situations that arise that benefit from the above forms of therapy I seek to examine and explore the deeper, larger issues of each persons story and how it is interconnected with the clients past, present and future. All that to say, there are a variety of options for you to explore and choose from in order to accomplish your personal goals and my hope is to provide a space where those goals can be met and achieved.

I work from a holistic approach in the therapeutic process with my clients. Meaning I look at each person as holistic beings with needs that are embedded and incorporated into each facet of ones life: biological, spiritual, emotional, sociological and psychological. I work with other mental health professionals and doctors in order to provide the best treatment and recommendations to my clients. My philosophy of counseling is one that recognizes that I must have more than one approach in the counseling setting, as each person is as diverse as the next and has unique problems and needs that require a distinct approach in order to be met, understood and treated.

My background in case management and referral services allows me to also work with people in need of additional services like job training & placement, life skills, career planning, educational resources and housing.

My therapeutic background is an existential-psycho dynamic approach. Simply put means that I believe there is a relational element to much of the problems and issues that come up in our lives. Clients often seek counseling services due to problems that arise in their relationships. I will be focusing on dynamics that are relational in nature between the client and his/her personal relationships, as well as the relationship that is developing between the client and myself, with the perspective that the dynamics in the counseling setting parallel those relationships outside of the counseling setting. I believe that the most transformative and lasting changes come not only from techniques and theories but more so from the relationship that develops between the client and counselor. Your work with me will consist of interweaving your family history, personal beliefs, current dreams and interpersonal relationships in order to find solutions that will deepen your functionality and health.
